ISLAMABAD, Saturday, May 17, 2025 (WNP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday held a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, discussing key bilateral and regional developments.

The two leaders exchanged views on recent regional dynamics and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Pakistan–Türkiye relations. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation on shared priorities and reiterated their resolve to work together for regional peace and stability.

Earlier on Friday, Senator Dar hosted UK Foreign Secretary Rt. Hon. David Lammy MP at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, marking Lammy’s first official visit to Pakistan.

During the meeting, the two leaders held in-depth discussions on the evolving situation in South Asia, particularly in the wake of the recent ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India.

Senator Dar apprised the British Foreign Secretary of India’s unprovoked actions, describing them as a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty, international law, the UN Charter, and the norms governing interstate conduct. He emphasized that Pakistan had exercised its right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, and stressed that its response was measured, targeted, and carefully calibrated to avoid civilian casualties.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the UK’s constructive role in helping de-escalate tensions between the two South Asian neighbours. Both sides underlined the importance of exercising restraint and maintaining dialogue to prevent further escalation and ensure long-term regional stability.

The meeting also covered a broad range of bilateral issues. The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in Pakistan–UK relations, particularly in trade, economic collaboration, and development partnerships.

Senator Dar acknowledged the UK’s continued support in Pakistan’s priority sectors, including education, healthcare, and climate resilience. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in sustainable development and climate action.

They also reiterated their resolve to further strengthen the deep-rooted Pakistan–UK relationship, grounded in mutual respect, shared democratic values, and strong people-to-people ties.
