HERAT, Monday, October 20, 2025 (WNP): The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, visited the construction site of the Serhetabat–Herat section of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline, marking a major milestone in advancing regional energy connectivity and cooperation.
The section, referred to as “Arkadagyň ak ýoly” (“The White Road of Arkadag”), represents a vital stage in the multi-billion-dollar TAPI project, which aims to deliver Turkmen natural gas to energy-deficient South Asian countries through Afghanistan and Pakistan.

During his visit to the Rabat Sanghi district in Afghanistan’s Herat province, Hero-Arkadag was received by members of the official delegations from both Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. A formal ceremony, beginning with prayers for the project’s success, underscored the initiative’s strategic and humanitarian importance for regional prosperity.
In his welcoming remarks, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan responsible for the fuel and energy sector praised the continued leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, under whose guidance Turkmenistan has achieved major progress in modernizing and expanding its oil and gas industry. On behalf of industry workers, he expressed deep respect for Hero-Arkadag’s vision and dedication, presenting him with a commemorative uniform from the State Concern “Turkmengaz.”

Addressing the gathering, Hero-Arkadag highlighted Turkmenistan’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation through large-scale infrastructure projects. He emphasized that Turkmenistan’s rich hydrocarbon reserves form the foundation of its energy export policy, with the TAPI pipeline playing a pivotal role in promoting regional peace, development, and energy security.
Recalling the groundbreaking ceremony held on September 11, 2024, for the “Arkadagyň ak ýoly” section in Mary velayat, Hero-Arkadag said the launch of the new phase signifies continued progress and the unwavering resolve of all participating nations to complete this landmark initiative.
Afghan Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar, speaking on behalf of the Afghan government, conveyed gratitude to Hero-Arkadag and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for their consistent support in advancing bilateral cooperation and the TAPI project. He also delivered greetings from Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Afghanistan.

A documentary film showcasing the progress of the Serhetabat–Herat section was screened for participants, highlighting ongoing construction efforts and cross-border collaboration.
Hero-Arkadag also acknowledged the early support of the United States, noting that the U.S.-based consultancy Brownstein continues to provide valuable technical expertise and recommendations contributing to the project’s realization.
Following the ceremony, Hero-Arkadag inspected the heavy machinery, construction equipment, and pipe-welding operations at the site. Briefed by H. Saparov, head of the Afghan branch of “Türkmengazgurluşyk,” on current progress, Hero-Arkadag gave his official blessing to commence the welding process — symbolizing the formal start of the next stage of the TAPI gas pipeline.
The moment marked not only a technical milestone but also a strong reaffirmation of Turkmenistan’s vision of energy diplomacy, fostering regional stability, and connecting Central and South Asia through shared prosperity.
