LONDON, Tuesday, December 23, 2025 (WNP): Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested in London on Tuesday during a protest in support of members of the group Palestine Action, according to British police.

Video footage circulating on social media appears to show the 22-year-old activist holding a placard reading, “I support the Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide.” The demonstration took place in central London and drew a number of activists advocating for Palestinian rights.

The City of London Police confirmed that a woman was arrested under the UK’s Terrorism Act for displaying an item deemed to be in support of a proscribed organisation. Authorities did not immediately release further details regarding the duration of detention or potential charges.

Palestine Action, a group known for direct action protests against companies linked to Israel, has been designated a proscribed organisation under UK law, making public support for it a criminal offence.

Thunberg, internationally known for her climate activism, has in recent years voiced strong positions on global justice issues, including the conflict in Gaza. Her arrest has sparked renewed debate over the balance between freedom of expression and national security laws in the United Kingdom.
