LACHIN, Wednesday, May 28, 2025 (WNP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), held a high-level meeting with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defence, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, during his visit to Lachin on Wednesday.
The two leaders engaged in wide-ranging discussions covering mutual interests, regional security dynamics, and the evolving strategic environment in South Asia and the Caucasus. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional stability and explored avenues to expand bilateral defence cooperation.
COAS Asim Munir lauded the enduring brotherly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, rooted in historical ties, mutual respect, and shared values. He underscored Pakistan’s resolve to deepen defence collaboration with Azerbaijan through joint military training, capacity building, and enhanced strategic coordination.
“The friendship between our armed forces is a reflection of the deep-rooted bond between our nations. Pakistan remains committed to working closely with Azerbaijan to promote peace, stability, and security in the region,” the Army Chief stated.
General Hasanov appreciated Pakistan’s consistent support to Azerbaijan in times of need and acknowledged the professional excellence of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He expressed keen interest in further institutionalizing military cooperation through exchange programs and joint initiatives.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Second Trilateral Summit of Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan, which marks a significant step in strengthening regional partnership among the three brotherly nations.
