ISLAMABAD, Thursday, June 4, 2026 (WNP): The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST), Islamabad, organized a poster conference titled “From Peter the Great to Vladimir Putin” to commemorate Russian Language Day, highlighting the historical evolution of Russia and promoting academic and cultural understanding between Pakistan and Russia.
The event was attended by faculty members and students of the Department of International Relations, including Head of the Department Dr. Faisal Javaid, as well as Cultural Attaché of the Russian Embassy in Pakistan, Gleb Shubin.
During the conference, students presented the findings of their research on various significant periods of Russian history, tracing the country’s transformation from the era of Peter the Great to the present day. Their presentations reflected a strong interest in Russia’s development as a multinational state with a rich historical legacy spanning more than a millennium.

Addressing the participants, Gleb Shubin delivered a presentation on the evolution of the modern Russian language and highlighted the pivotal role played by the renowned Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, often referred to as the “Sun of Russian Poetry,” in shaping Russia’s literary and linguistic heritage.
The Russian diplomat discussed key milestones in the formation of the contemporary Russian language and underscored the enduring influence of Russian literature on global culture and education.
Shubin also briefed students on educational opportunities available in Russia, encouraging Pakistani youth to explore higher education programs offered by Russian universities.
He highlighted scholarship opportunities and academic exchange initiatives designed to strengthen educational cooperation and people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Russia.
Participants described the conference as an informative and engaging platform that enhanced their understanding of Russian history, culture and language while fostering academic dialogue and international awareness.
The event reflected the growing interest among Pakistani students in Russia’s historical, cultural and educational landscape and underscored the importance of academic exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The conference concluded with interactive discussions between students, faculty members and representatives of the Russian Embassy, reaffirming the role of educational and cultural engagement in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Pakistan and Russia.
