RIYADH, Tuesday, April 14, 2026 (WNP): President of the European Council António Costa on Tuesday expressed the European Union’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia during his first official visit to the Kingdom, following recent attacks described as unjustifiable.
During his meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Costa conveyed support for Saudi Arabia and its people, while appreciating the Kingdom’s stabilising role in the region and its efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum of the US-Iran ceasefire agreement, urging all parties to engage in good faith to achieve a sustainable and comprehensive resolution.
Highlighting key concerns, Costa said Iran’s leadership should utilize the opportunity to address issues raised by the international community, including its nuclear programme, ballistic missile activities, freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and its support to proxy groups, particularly Hezbollah.
Reaffirming the European Union’s stance, the EU Council President underscored that diplomacy remains the only viable path toward achieving lasting peace in the region.
