UNITED NATIONS, Tuesday, September 23, 2025 (WNP): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday called for the settlement of the decades-old Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations resolutions, emphasizing the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

Addressing the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, President Erdogan underscored that peace and stability in South Asia hinged on the resolution of the issue.

“The Kashmir question should be resolved on the basis of UN resolutions for the best interests of our brothers and sisters in Kashmir, through dialogue,” he said.

Welcoming the ceasefire agreement reached after the April 2025 conflict between Pakistan and India, which lasted four days, Erdogan expressed hope that the two neighbors would continue to engage in dialogue to avoid further hostilities.

“We are pleased with the ceasefire achieved following the tensions last April between Pakistan and India, when the situation escalated into a conflict,” he remarked.

The Turkish president further stressed the importance of cooperation between Islamabad and New Delhi in addressing terrorism. “It is important to see cooperation between the two countries when it comes to counterterrorism,” he added.
