RIYADH, Thursday, August 21, 2025 (WNP): Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman donated blood on Thursday to inaugurate the Kingdom’s annual national blood donation campaign, a gesture widely hailed as a symbol of humanitarian leadership and solidarity.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary donations and to ensure self-sufficiency in safe and sustainable blood supplies across the Kingdom. Officials reported that more than 800,000 people donated blood in 2024, underscoring growing public participation.

Health Minister Fahad Al-Jalajel praised the crown prince’s initiative, describing it as a “humanitarian message” that reinforces blood donation as a national value. “This initiative embodies a firm commitment to community solidarity and healthcare sustainability,” he said, urging citizens and residents alike to contribute.

The Ministry of Health echoed this sentiment on social media, posting: “The Leader’s Giving … A Role Model for the Nation.”

Senior Saudi officials also highlighted the crown prince’s broader record of championing public health, from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine to enrolling in the national organ-donation program.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, advisor to the Royal Court and head of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, said the blood donation campaign represents “the highest form of humanitarian giving” and reflects the Kingdom’s values of compassion and solidarity.

Riyadh Governor Prince Faisal bin Bandar and Eastern Province Governor Prince Saud bin Naif both noted that the crown prince’s action sets an inspiring example, raising awareness of the life-saving importance of voluntary blood donation.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Sheikh underscored the religious and ethical significance of the initiative, citing the Quranic verse: “Whoever saves a life, it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.”

Dr. Hisham Al-Jadhey, CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, added that the campaign strengthens the partnership between citizens and the healthcare sector, ensuring informed and sustainable systems.

The nationwide initiative is expected to significantly boost blood bank reserves, providing vital support for hospitals and patients across Saudi Arabia.
