RAWALPINDI, Friday, July 25, 2025 (WNP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), concluded a high-profile official visit to China, holding a series of strategic meetings with senior Chinese political and military leadership in Beijing to reaffirm the deep-rooted and evolving Pakistan-China defence partnership.
According to a statement by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir called on Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, with discussions focusing on the shifting regional and global security landscape, enhanced connectivity under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and the need for coordinated responses to shared geopolitical and security challenges.
Both sides expressed deep satisfaction over the trajectory of bilateral engagement and reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to sovereign equality, multilateral cooperation, and long-term regional stability.
On the military front, the COAS met with General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC); General Chen Hui, Political Commissar of the PLA Army; and Lieutenant General Cai Zhai Jun, Chief of Staff of the PLA Army.
Upon his arrival at the PLA Army Headquarters, Field Marshal Munir was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour, symbolizing the enduring camaraderie and mutual respect between the two militaries.
The engagements featured wide-ranging discussions on defence collaboration, with a strong emphasis on:
- Counterterrorism cooperation
- Joint military training and exercises
- Defence modernization
- Enhanced operational interoperability
- Institutional linkages to counter hybrid and transnational threats
The Chinese military leadership reiterated full confidence in Pakistan’s armed forces, lauding them as a pillar of regional resilience and peace, particularly in the South Asian context.
Field Marshal Munir appreciated China’s steadfast support and reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to expand military-to-military cooperation across all strategic domains. He underscored that Pakistan remains firmly committed to regional peace, connectivity, and shared prosperity, with China as its most trusted strategic ally.
The visit marks a significant step in deepening politico-military ties between the two countries and highlights their joint resolve to safeguard regional security through high-level dialogue, institutional collaboration, and shared strategic vision.
