BUSAN, Friday, October 31, 2025 (WNP): Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday on the sidelines of the APEC Summit, in what both leaders described as a turning point in the bilateral relationship between Canada and China.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Carney said the two sides had agreed to renew their relationship “in a pragmatic and constructive way,” underscoring a shared commitment to rebuild trust and cooperation.

“We are committed to renewing the relationship in a pragmatic and constructive way,” Carney stated. “We each directed our officials to move quickly to resolve outstanding trade issues and irritants, and we look forward to making progress as we strengthen ties between our two countries.”
The meeting marks the first high-level engagement between Canadian and Chinese leadership in several years, signaling a thaw in relations that have faced strains over trade and diplomatic matters.
Diplomatic observers described the dialogue as a positive step toward restoring economic cooperation between the two nations, particularly in areas such as trade, technology, and clean energy.
