Pakistan, Iran reaffirm defence, strategic ties as Tehran envoy meets Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, January 20, 2026 (WNP): Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, on Tuesday called on Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening longstanding bilateral relations rooted in mutual respect, shared values and close people-to-people ties.

The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting the historic and brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Iran. The two leaders exchanged warm greetings and reviewed avenues to deepen cooperation, particularly in areas of mutual interest.

The Defence Minister underscored that the Government and people of Pakistan share deep-rooted, historic and fraternal relations with Iran, and reiterated Pakistan’s firm solidarity with the Iranian people, especially during challenging times.

Khawaja Asif expressed confidence in the wisdom, resilience and leadership of the Iranian nation, noting that Iran’s rich culture, ancient civilization and historical strength would enable it to effectively address the challenges it faces.

The Iranian Ambassador conveyed his gratitude to the Government and people of Pakistan for their consistent support. He appreciated the principled and longstanding approach of Pakistani leadership towards Iran and acknowledged Islamabad’s constructive role in fostering regional understanding and cooperation.

The meeting underscored the shared resolve of both countries to further enhance bilateral engagement and maintain close coordination on regional and international matters of common concern.
