ISLAMABAD, Friday, January 9, 2026 (WNP): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has strongly condemned “meddlesome and deceptive” remarks by United States officials regarding Iran’s internal developments, accusing Washington of continuing a policy of hostility, pressure, and interference aimed at destabilizing the country.

In a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry and released by the Embassy of Iran in Islamabad, Tehran said recent US positions were not motivated by concern for the Iranian people but were part of a broader strategy of “maximum pressure,” including threats, psychological warfare, and attempts to incite violence and insecurity within Iran.

The statement reaffirmed that, under the principles enshrined in Iran’s Constitution, the Islamic Republic recognizes the right to peaceful protest and remains committed to addressing legitimate public demands within the framework of the law. It emphasized that the government is taking measures to mitigate economic hardships, while underscoring that a significant portion of Iran’s economic challenges stems from what it described as an “all-out economic and financial war” waged by the United States through illegal and unjust sanctions.

According to the Foreign Ministry, US actions against Iran go beyond economic pressure and include coordinated psychological operations, disinformation campaigns, threats of military intervention, and the incitement of violence and terrorism.

Tehran said such actions are in clear violation of the United Nations Charter, peremptory norms of international law, and the fundamental principles of the international human rights system.

The statement recalled what it termed a long history of US interference in Iran’s internal affairs, including the 1953 coup, Washington’s support for Iraq during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war, alleged participation alongside Israel in a June 2025 attack, and the continued imposition of unilateral sanctions. In this context, Iran urged the United Nations and other international institutions to uphold international law, particularly the principles of state sovereignty and non-interference.

The Foreign Ministry also called on the international community to recognize the “illegal and inhumane” nature of US unilateral coercive measures, asserting that the sanctions directly affect the livelihoods, human rights, and daily lives of ordinary Iranians. It described these measures as amounting to a crime against humanity.

Concluding the statement, Iran said its people would continue to confront foreign interference with vigilance, national unity, and reliance on their historical and cultural resilience. The ministry stressed that Iran would not allow the US “deceptive policies and hostile conduct” to undermine the country’s sovereignty, independence, or dignity.
