ISLAMABAD, Thursday, January 8, 2026 (WNP): Foreign ministers from more than two dozen countries, along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), have issued a strong joint statement condemning Israel’s recent visit to the “Somaliland” region of the Federal Republic of Somalia, calling it a violation of international law and a direct challenge to Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement was jointly endorsed by the foreign ministers of Algeria, Bangladesh, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, The Gambia, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Türkiye, Yemen, as well as the OIC.

Recalling their earlier declaration of December 27, 2025—rejecting Israel’s recognition of the Somaliland region—the ministers expressed “strong condemnation” of what they described as an illegal visit by an Israeli official to the region on January 6, 2026. They said the move constituted a clear breach of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and undermined established international norms, including the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

The foreign ministers reaffirmed their “unwavering support” for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, warning that encouraging secessionist agendas is unacceptable and risks further destabilizing an already fragile region.

Emphasizing the importance of international law, the statement underscored that respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and adherence to diplomatic norms are essential for maintaining regional and global stability. The ministers also commended Somalia’s commitment to peaceful international engagement, constructive diplomacy, and compliance with international law.

The joint declaration further expressed collective support for diplomatic and legal measures undertaken by Somalia to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability. It called on Israel to fully respect Somalia’s national unity and territorial integrity, honor its obligations under international law, and immediately revoke its recognition of Somaliland.

The statement reflects growing diplomatic unity among Muslim-majority and partner states on the issue, reinforcing international backing for Somalia amid heightened concerns over regional stability in the Horn of Africa.
