KUALA LUMPUR, Tuesday, October 7, 2025 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met with a delegation of Malaysia’s leading business group, Gobi Partners, led by its Co-Founder and Chairman Thomas Tsao, to discuss avenues for expanding investment and technological cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia.
During the meeting, the Gobi Partners delegation expressed strong interest in exploring opportunities for collaboration in Pakistan’s e-commerce and financial technology (fintech) sectors, recognizing the country’s growing digital landscape and startup potential.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan and Malaysia possess immense untapped potential for economic and trade cooperation, and both sides are working actively to unlock these opportunities. Referring to the Pakistan-Malaysia Business and Investment Conference held a day earlier, he said the event was a highly encouraging step toward promoting business-to-business linkages between the two brotherly nations.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment and enhancing ease of doing business in Pakistan. He noted that the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is fully dedicated to providing comprehensive support and facilitation to foreign investors.
Appreciating Gobi Partners’ confidence in Pakistan’s startup ecosystem, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the government is implementing focused reforms to support startups and early-stage investors by improving access to investment facilitation and infrastructure.
“Our priority is to mobilize both international and domestic capital to build a sustainable startup ecosystem,” he stated, adding that the digital economy, particularly in the areas of fintech, e-commerce, and IT services, holds a central position in Pakistan’s national development strategy.
Highlighting Pakistan’s vast potential in the IT, technology, and artificial intelligence sectors, the Prime Minister invited international business groups and investors to explore emerging opportunities in these fields.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and senior government officials were also present at the meeting.
