ISLAMABAD, Friday, May 16, 2025 (WNP): United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Lammy, currently on an official visit to Pakistan, met Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House on Friday to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to upholding the ceasefire understanding and emphasized the country’s policy of restraint in the face of India’s recent “baseless accusations and unprovoked aggression.”
He stressed that Pakistan’s response, made in self-defence, was “measured, proportionate, and precisely targeted.” While reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Prime Minister underscored Islamabad’s enduring desire for peace and stability in South Asia.
Prime Minister Sharif conveyed warm greetings to His Majesty King Charles III and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan-U.K. relations and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening cooperation in diverse areas, including trade, development, education, and security.
Foreign Secretary Lammy congratulated the Prime Minister on the ceasefire development and appreciated Pakistan’s constructive approach in de-escalating tensions. He assured the U.K.’s continued support for peace, stability, and dialogue in the region.
The meeting highlighted the mutual desire to strengthen bilateral ties and maintain close coordination on regional and global challenges.
