ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, May 07, 2025 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday received a telephone call from Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, during which the two leaders discussed the escalating regional tensions following India’s recent missile attacks on Pakistani territory.

The Qatari premier expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation and conveyed his country’s desire to play a constructive role in defusing tensions. He also extended Qatar’s solidarity with Pakistan during this critical time.

Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked Qatar for its support and condemned India’s unprovoked missile strikes as a blatant act of aggression and a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty. He said the attacks, which claimed 26 innocent civilian lives—including women and children—and damaged mosques, posed a serious threat to peace and stability in South Asia.

“India’s reckless assault on our territorial integrity is not only a cowardly act but a grave provocation that endangers the entire region,” Shehbaz stated, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace but warning that any further violations would be met with full resolve and strength.

He reiterated that following the Pahalgam incident, Pakistan had proposed a neutral and transparent international investigation into India’s allegations. Pakistan, he added, would welcome Qatar’s involvement in such an initiative. However, India had instead chosen escalation over dialogue, which he said reflected its “irresponsible state behavior.”

In response, the Qatari leader offered condolences for the loss of life and praised Pakistan’s measured approach and commitment to regional peace.

Separately, the Arab Republic of Egypt expressed deep concern over the recent spike in hostilities between India and Pakistan. In an official statement, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged both countries to prioritize diplomatic engagement and avoid any actions that could further inflame tensions.

“Egypt is following with great concern the recent developments between India and Pakistan, which witnessed an exchange of fire resulting in a number of victims and injuries,” the statement said. It emphasized the importance of all possible efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent further deterioration.

Cairo called on both New Delhi and Islamabad to show maximum restraint and pursue peaceful solutions that reflect the aspirations of their peoples for security and stability. As a longstanding proponent of peace and conflict resolution, Egypt reiterated its readiness to support efforts aimed at restoring calm and preserving regional harmony.
