‘Angels of Ladoga’ screening highlights Soviet resistance to Nazi invasion, strengthens Russia-Pakistan cultural dialogue

ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, September 8, 2026 (WNP): Bahria University, Islamabad Campus, on Tuesday hosted a screening of the Russian historical drama “Angels of Ladoga” to mark the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Siege of Leningrad during World War II.

The screening was attended by faculty members and students of the university and was organised as part of an educational and cultural initiative supported by the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan.

Addressing the audience, Dr. Saira Abbasi, Head of the Department of International Relations, and Prof. Dr. Adam Saud highlighted the historical significance of the film, which portrays the courage and selfless struggle of the Soviet people during their resistance against Nazi forces.

They said the screening would help students develop a deeper understanding of the events and human experiences associated with World War II, while also providing an opportunity to engage with an important chapter of modern history through cinema.

The university representatives further noted that cultural and educational exchanges of this nature could contribute to strengthening and expanding Russia-Pakistan cultural dialogue.

The Embassy of Russia expressed gratitude to the administration of Bahria University for its cooperation and assistance in organising the educational project.

The event reflected the role of academic and cultural exchanges in promoting historical awareness, people-to-people understanding and closer relations between Pakistan and Russia.
