Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed praises Pakistan’s leadership and role in OIC, welcomes Makkah Joint Defence Agreement for regional peace and security

ISLAMABAD, Thursday, September 3, 2026 (WNP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with newly elected Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, congratulating him on his election by consensus and expressing confidence in his leadership of the organisation.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister underscored the special importance Pakistan attaches to the OIC, expressing confidence that the newly elected Secretary-General would make an important contribution towards advancing the interests of the Muslim Ummah and addressing issues of common concern, particularly Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir.

Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed appreciated Pakistan’s support for his candidature and acknowledged the country’s important role within the OIC.

He commended Pakistan’s leadership, including the efforts of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, in contributing to efforts that brought an end to the Iran conflict.

The OIC Secretary-General also congratulated the Deputy Prime Minister on the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing the agreement as significant for regional peace and security.

During the conversation, both sides agreed to work closely to further consolidate the OIC’s role in serving the Muslim Ummah and addressing challenges confronting the Islamic world.

They also expressed their desire for continued coordination and an early meeting to strengthen cooperation and advance shared objectives through the OIC platform.
