PM Shehbaz arrives in Tehran to attend funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader

TEHRAN, Friday, July 3, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tehran on Friday, leading a high-level Pakistani delegation to attend the funeral and final rites of the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Shaheed Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

Upon his arrival at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport, the Prime Minister was received by Iran’s Minister of Interior, Eskandar Momeni, along with senior Iranian government officials.

The Prime Minister is heading a high-powered delegation comprising Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Federal Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and other senior government officials.

The Pakistani delegation is participating in the funeral ceremonies of the late Iranian Supreme Leader, who embraced martyrdom during attacks on Iran on February 28, 2026.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit reflects Pakistan’s profound respect for the late Iranian leader and underscores Islamabad’s unwavering solidarity with the government and people of Iran during this period of national mourning.

Following his participation in the funeral ceremonies and condolence engagements in Tehran, the Prime Minister is scheduled to depart for Istanbul to continue his official bilateral visit to the Republic of Türkiye.
