TEHRAN, Thursday, June 18, 2026 (WNP): Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU) between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States as a historic document that reflects the Iranian nation’s resilience, dignity and commitment to peace, saying the agreement demonstrated that genuine peace can only be achieved through mutual respect.

The president’s remarks came after the electronic signing of the Islamabad MoU by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and President Masoud Pezeshkian, with Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif endorsing the agreement in his capacity as mediator.

Commenting on the significance of the accord, President Pezeshkian said the document embodied the determination of a nation that had refused to compromise its dignity, independence and sovereign rights in the face of threats or pressure.

“This text is the reflection of the voice of a nation that did not trade its dignity and independence for any threat or pressure,” the Iranian president said.

He stated that the agreement was the outcome of national resilience, political wisdom and responsible diplomacy pursued throughout the negotiations.

“What has been recorded today is the result of national resilience, political rationality and responsible diplomacy,” he said.

Describing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as a landmark diplomatic achievement, President Pezeshkian said it conveyed a clear message from a strong and confident Iran that lasting peace could only be established on the basis of mutual respect among nations.

“This is a historical document and a message from a powerful Iran: Peace will be realized in the shadow of mutual respect,” he added.

President Pezeshkian reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently remained committed to international peace while safeguarding its national dignity, independence and sovereign interests.

He said Iran would continue pursuing policies aimed at strengthening regional cooperation, promoting development and supporting constructive engagement with the international community based on equality and mutual respect.

The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, electronically signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States and endorsed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as mediator, provides for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade and the launch of negotiations toward a comprehensive agreement on nuclear issues, sanctions relief and broader regional security arrangements.
