Erdoğan, Uzbek President Mirziyoyev discuss bilateral cooperation, regional issues in Turkistan

TURKISTAN, Friday, May 15, 2026 (WNP): President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the Informal Summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Turkistan, Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed Türkiye–Uzbekistan bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global developments, according to official statements.

President Erdoğan emphasized that Ankara and Tashkent would continue efforts to deepen cooperation across all sectors, particularly in defense industry collaboration and trade relations.

He noted that the growing partnership between the two brotherly countries was contributing to regional stability and economic integration within the Turkic world.

The Turkish president also expressed confidence that Türkiye and Uzbekistan would further strengthen their solidarity and coordination on international platforms in the coming years.

During the meeting, President Erdoğan invited President Mirziyoyev to attend the upcoming Summit of the Organization of Turkic States as well as the COP31 conference to be hosted by Türkiye.

The talks took place as leaders of Turkic states gathered in Turkistan for the informal summit focused on regional cooperation, digital transformation, connectivity, trade and strategic coordination among member states.
