DOHA, Sunday, May 10, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Araghchi on Sunday and discussed efforts aimed at achieving peace and enhancing regional security and stability.
During the call, the two sides reviewed ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis through peaceful means and stressed the importance of reducing tensions in the region.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for mediation efforts and emphasized the need for all parties to respond positively in order to create appropriate conditions for progress in negotiations and prevent renewed escalation.
The Qatari prime minister also stressed that freedom of navigation was a well-established principle that could not be compromised.
He warned that closing the Strait of Hormuz or using it as a pressure tool would deepen the crisis and endanger the vital interests of countries in the region.
He further noted that such actions could negatively affect global energy and food supplies as well as the stability of international markets and supply chains.
The Qatari premier emphasized the importance of adherence to international law and the United Nations Charter while prioritizing the interests of the peoples of the region in a manner contributing to regional and international peace and stability.
