ISLAMABAD, Saturday, April 25, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan has successfully launched its indigenous electro-optical satellite EO-3, marking a significant milestone in the country’s growing space capabilities, according to official sources.

The satellite was launched by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre, further strengthening Pakistan’s position in the domain of space technology and Earth observation.

Beyond its primary imaging function, EO-3 is equipped with advanced experimental payloads aimed at validating next-generation space technologies. These include a multi-geometry imaging module to enhance imaging accuracy, an advanced energy storage system, and an onboard artificial intelligence-powered data processing unit enabling real-time analysis and improved decision-making support.

Officials said the addition of EO-3 to Pakistan’s Earth observation satellite fleet would significantly enhance national capabilities in remote sensing, ensuring improved data continuity, imaging reliability, and analytical precision. The system is expected to support a wide range of socio-economic sectors, including agriculture, disaster management, and urban planning.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended SUPARCO’s scientists and engineers for the achievement, reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing Pakistan’s space programme. He also expressed appreciation for China’s continued cooperation in the field of space technology.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar also lauded the successful launch, praising SUPARCO’s technical excellence and dedication. He described the milestone as a reflection of Pakistan’s growing scientific capability and reiterated the government’s resolve to further strengthen the country’s presence in the space sector.

The successful launch underscores Pakistan’s steady progress in space science and technology, opening new avenues for innovation and development.
