RAWALPINDI, Sunday, April 13, 2025 (WNP): A high-level delegation from the United States Congress, led by Representative Jack Bergman and including Representatives Thomas Suozzi and Jonathan Jackson, met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), on Sunday in Rawalpindi.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting focused on a broad spectrum of issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on regional security and defence cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement grounded in mutual respect, shared democratic values, and converging strategic objectives. The visiting U.S. lawmakers lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces for their significant role in counter-terrorism efforts and acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding contributions to regional peace and stability.
The delegation also expressed admiration for the resilience of the Pakistani people and the country’s strategic potential, highlighting a strong commitment to advancing broad-based bilateral cooperation. Areas identified for enhanced collaboration included security, trade, investment, and economic development, with a particular emphasis on respecting Pakistan’s sovereignty.
General Munir thanked the U.S. lawmakers for their visit and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its enduring partnership with the United States. He emphasized the desire to deepen and diversify bilateral ties in a manner that is mutually beneficial and aligned with both nations’ national interests.
The meeting also witnessed the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing training collaboration, particularly in the field of Information Technology.
