Tashkent hosts VIII Int’l Marathon 2026 with global participation amid Navruz festivities

TASHKENT, Tuesday, March 31, 2026 (WNP): The VIII Tashkent International Marathon is set to take place on April 5 in Tashkent, bringing together thousands of runners from around the world in celebration of the nationwide holiday of Navruz.

Now in its eighth consecutive year, the marathon has emerged as one of the largest sporting events in Uzbekistan, with more than 15,000 participants from over 30 countries expected to compete. The event holds the prestigious “World Athletics Label” status awarded by World Athletics, ensuring that all results are officially recognized at the international level.

The marathon is being organized by the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Uzbekistan Athletics Federation, and ProRun Company, reflecting a strong institutional commitment to promoting sports and healthy lifestyles in the country.

Participants will compete across multiple race categories, including the full 42-kilometre marathon, 21-kilometre half marathon, 10-kilometre race, and a 5-kilometre fun run. Special competitions have also been arranged for athletes with disabilities, underscoring the inclusive nature of the event. Both professional athletes and amateur runners are expected to take part in large numbers.

The two-day event will commence on April 4 at Humo Arena with a Kids Run, followed by an opening ceremony, fireworks display, and a concert. The main marathon races will be held on April 5, beginning early in the morning, with the full marathon starting at 6:00 a.m. and subsequent races scheduled throughout the day, culminating in a closing ceremony at noon.

The старт and finish points will be located at Humo Arena Square, with runners passing through major thoroughfares of the city, including Afrosiyob, Islam Karimov, Sharof Rashidov, Shahrisabz, Oybek, Nukus, Abdulla Qodiriy, and Beshyog‘och streets, offering participants a scenic route through the heart of the capital.

Registration for the marathon is available online via ProRun.uz and its official bot service. Organizers describe the VIII Tashkent International Marathon as a landmark international event that blends competitive sport with cultural celebration, promoting unity, health, and a vibrant festive atmosphere.
