LAHORE, Wednesday, January 14, 2026 (WNP): Senior Minister of the Government of Punjab Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday briefed a high-level foreign delegation on sweeping governance reforms and climate-focused policy initiatives being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, highlighting it as an unprecedented drive for accountability, sustainability and inclusive growth in the province.

During the meeting, the senior minister said the Punjab government has introduced a comprehensive Key Performance Indicator (KPI) system for district administrations and the police, ensuring measurable accountability from senior officials down to field-level officers. She noted that all officials, from assistant commissioners to frontline personnel, now operate under clearly defined performance benchmarks.

Aurangzeb said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally reviews the KPI performance of officials every month through detailed evaluation meetings, including virtual sessions via Zoom, allowing direct oversight and corrective action at the grassroots level.

She described the initiative as a transformative step in public administration, marking a clear break from past practices.

The senior minister also announced a major shift in government procurement policy, stating that the Government of Pakistan has decided to phase out the purchase of petrol-powered vehicles. Under the current year’s program, only hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) will be procured for official use. She emphasized the importance of coordinated planning, regular reviews and sustained follow-up to ensure the successful implementation of the clean mobility transition.

According to Aurangzeb, the reforms and policy direction have drawn strong international appreciation. A visiting foreign delegation, including American business leaders, lauded the Punjab government for what they termed the “superb quality of implementation” and the rapid pace of development across the province, describing it as a global vote of confidence in Punjab’s governance model.

She said members of the delegation paid a standing tribute to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, praising her leadership, firm governance approach and bold climate action agenda.

Discussions with the delegation also covered zero tolerance for child labour, enhanced cooperation in health and education, and collaboration in advancing electric and hybrid transport systems.

Aurangzeb said Punjab is moving decisively toward clean mobility, improved air quality and sustainable, inclusive economic growth, underlining the provincial government’s commitment to long-term reforms that align governance, environmental responsibility and social development.
