ISLAMABAD, Monday, May 05, 2025 (WNP): In a proud moment for the Pakistani diaspora in the United States, Chaudhry Faisal Mahmood has been elected President of the Student Union at Suffolk County College — the largest campus within the State University of New York (SUNY) system.
According to a press note issued late Sunday night, the election campaign ran for nearly two weeks, with students casting their votes online via the college’s student portal from April 28 to May 1.
Speaking after his victory, Faisal Mahmood credited his success to the collective support of the student community. “I received overwhelming support and votes from all communities. It is because of their trust and encouragement that I was able to win this election,” he said.
Mahmood will now represent more than 25,000 students during the 2025–2026 academic year.
Reflecting on the campaign, he shared, “It was a great opportunity to meet inspiring individuals. I learned something new from students every day, and their ideas played a crucial role in shaping my vision for our college.”
He also expressed heartfelt appreciation for his campaign team. “I sincerely thank my team for their dedication and tireless efforts throughout this journey. Their commitment was invaluable, and I’m deeply grateful for their trust and support.”
Mahmood, who is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice Science, concluded by affirming his commitment to student advocacy: “I am honored by this responsibility and pledge to work selflessly to bring about positive change and address the real concerns of our student body.”
His election has been widely celebrated among Pakistani-American communities, who see his leadership as a symbol of growing representation and engagement on U.S. campuses.
