Pakistan institutes historic tri-services command as COAS & CDF Asim Munir receives ‘Guard of Honour’ at GHQ

RAWALPINDI, Monday, December 8, 2025 (WNP/ISPR): Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), was accorded a Tri-Services Guard of Honour at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Monday to mark the formal establishment of the newly instituted appointment of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces.

The ceremony was attended by Admiral Naveed Ashraf, NI, NI(M), Chief of the Naval Staff; Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, NI(M), HJ, Chief of the Air Staff; and senior officers from all three services, underscoring a new era of unified defence leadership in Pakistan.

Addressing officers of the tri-services, the COAS & CDF praised the extraordinary courage and resolve demonstrated by the Pakistani nation and the professionalism of the Armed Forces during Marka-e-Haq. He emphasized that the Multi-Domain Operations executed during the conflict have now become a global case study for the future of warfare.

Paying tribute to the martyrs, he said their sacrifices would forever remain a source of national pride.

Field Marshal Munir highlighted the urgent need for enhanced tri-services integration to meet the evolving character of warfare, which he noted now spans emerging domains such as cyberspace, the electromagnetic spectrum, outer space, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and information operations.

He described the establishment of the CDF Headquarters as a historic milestone that will strengthen coherence, coordination and operational synergy across the Armed Forces.

He concluded by outlining his vision for Pakistan’s military: a culturally forward-looking, technologically advanced and combat-ready force that deters aggression and commands the full confidence of the nation.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force personnel for their acts of gallantry during Marka-e-Haq, honouring their role in safeguarding the country during the conflict.
