ISLAMABAD, Monday, August 18, 2025 (WNP): Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the successful completion and commissioning of the Jhal Magsi development project in Balochistan, alongside the launch of wide-ranging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at uplifting the remote district.

The project, undertaken on the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for the fast-track development of Jhal Magsi, is currently producing around 14 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of gas and 45 Barrels per Day (BPD) of condensate. The gas has been injected into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network through a newly built 98-kilometer pipeline.

Development work began in February 2024 after the government approved incentives, including conversion from the 1997 Petroleum Policy to the Marginal Field Gas Pricing Policy. Despite technical and territorial challenges, the project was completed on an accelerated timeline. Facilities installed include an Amine Unit, Dehydration Unit, Hot Oil Package, power generation facilities, and gathering systems.

The Jhal Magsi field, comprising two wells, is a joint venture operated by OGDCL, which holds a 56 percent working interest. Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) has 24 percent, while Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) holds 20 percent.

Beyond energy development, OGDCL has rolled out a series of CSR initiatives to directly benefit local communities. These include:

  • Education & Healthcare: Construction of the OGDCL Grammar School (50% complete) and a Mother & Child Health Care Facility with Indus Hospital (60% complete).
  • Housing & Training: Building 84 climate-resilient houses, providing fully funded scholarships at Sukkur IBA, and technical training for 55 youth under NAVTTC.
  • Health Support: Donation of two ambulances, annual free eye camps, and ration distribution to 800 families.
  • Water & Culture: Installation of two RO plants, an underground water tank, and sponsorship of the Jhal Magsi Desert Rally to promote local culture and sports.

The successful commissioning of the Jhal Magsi project, coupled with these social investments, reflects OGDCL’s dual commitment to national energy security and the socio-economic development of its operational areas.

The company said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision to accelerate development in remote regions and ensure that local communities benefit from national resource development.
