ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, July 9, 2025 (WNP): Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital operator, in partnership with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), has successfully deployed geo-fenced SMS alerts to millions of citizens in flood-prone areas amid ongoing monsoon flooding across the country.
The alerts were issued under the Disaster Early Warning System (DEW-3 – Monsoon) initiative, for enhancing public awareness and facilitating timely evacuation and precautionary measures in regions at risk.
According to NDMA, over 23 million Jazz users reside in areas identified as vulnerable, making them a priority for immediate, location-based risk communication. The initiative uses advanced geo-fencing technology to deliver real-time, targeted messages to people directly within the affected zones, potentially saving lives by enabling swift action.
“This is a powerful demonstration of how public-private collaboration can leverage technology to protect lives and strengthen communities,” said Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz. “Our nationwide reach and location-based capabilities make us uniquely positioned to support NDMA in minimizing disaster-related risks. As the monsoon season unfolds, this remains an ongoing effort to protect even more people in harm’s way.”
The NDMA acknowledged the effectiveness of the partnership, noting that the geo-fenced alert system significantly enhances the authority’s capacity to reach at-risk populations quickly and precisely during weather-related emergencies.
In addition to SMS alerts, NDMA continues to disseminate critical weather updates and advisories through mainstream media, social media platforms, and digital tools such as the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile app, reinforcing its commitment to public safety and disaster preparedness.
The collaboration between Jazz and NDMA was formalized in March 2025, with a focus on strengthening Pakistan’s disaster response infrastructure through digital innovation and communication technology. The alert system is scalable and adaptable, allowing for rapid outreach as new threats emerge, including during heatwaves and other natural disasters.
This strategic alliance is part of Jazz’s broader commitment to using technology for social good, aligning with national efforts to build resilient communities and minimize the human impact of climate-related emergencies.
