ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, May 07, 2025 (WNP): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with the acting U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Natalie Baker, in Islamabad on Wednesday to discuss the regional security situation in the wake of India’s recent airstrikes on Pakistani territory.

The meeting was also attended by U.S. Political Counselor Zack Harkinrider and Pakistan’s Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.

Minister Naqvi provided a detailed briefing on the consequences of the Indian aggression, expressing Pakistan’s grave concerns about the violation of its sovereignty and the threat it poses to regional peace and stability.

“India has jeopardized the peace and stability of South Asia,” Naqvi said. “By targeting civilians, India has blatantly violated international laws and dismantled regional harmony.”

He underscored that Pakistan had demonstrated restraint and acted responsibly in the face of provocation. “Our commitment to peace must not be mistaken for weakness,” he warned. “Pakistan responded strongly and appropriately in defense of its homeland and will never allow any compromise on its national security.”

Naqvi further revealed that Pakistan had warned friendly nations about India’s hostile intentions well before the current escalation, calling on the international community to take serious notice of New Delhi’s destabilizing actions.

The meeting highlights Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts to engage with key allies and maintain transparency as tensions with India continue to mount.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, said the United States was “closely monitoring” the situation following India’s airstrikes on five locations inside Pakistan.

“I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely,” Rubio wrote, echoing U.S. President Donald Trump’s earlier call for calm. “I share the President’s hope that this situation is resolved quickly and peacefully, and we will continue to engage with both Indian and Pakistani leadership.”

Earlier, on April 30, Secretary Rubio held a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During the call, the prime minister outlined Pakistan’s position on recent developments in South Asia following the Pahalgam incident.

Sharif described India’s actions as escalatory and provocative, strongly rejecting attempts to link Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack. He reiterated Pakistan’s demand for an impartial and transparent investigation to establish the facts.

He also voiced deep concern over India’s reported move to weaponize water resources, warning that such actions threaten the livelihoods of over 240 million Pakistanis. “There is no provision in the Indus Waters Treaty for unilateral withdrawal or violation,” Sharif emphasized.
