LAHORE, Thursday, January 1, 2026 (WNP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday inaugurated a newly constructed, state-of-the-art arena at the world-famous Wagah Border crossing, marking a significant upgrade to one of Pakistan’s most iconic national landmarks.
The chief minister, who was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, was accompanied by the Corps Commander Lahore and the Director General Pakistan Rangers (Punjab). Senior civil and military officials were also present on the occasion.
The newly built arena is designed to enhance the experience of thousands of visitors who daily attend the historic Wagah Border ceremony, a symbol of national pride, discipline, and patriotism. The upgraded facility features improved seating capacity, better crowd management arrangements, and modern infrastructure aimed at ensuring safety, comfort, and accessibility for spectators, including families and foreign visitors.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif underscored the importance of preserving and promoting national symbols that reflect Pakistan’s identity and resilience. She said the Wagah Border ceremony is not only a military tradition but also a cultural spectacle that showcases the spirit, unity, and discipline of the nation to the world.
Officials from Pakistan Rangers Punjab briefed the chief minister on the design, construction, and operational features of the new arena, highlighting that the project was completed with a focus on international standards, public convenience, and security considerations.
The inauguration of the new Wagah Border arena is seen as part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to improve public infrastructure, promote tourism, and project a positive image of Pakistan globally, while reinforcing civil-military cooperation in national initiatives.
