BEIJING, December 22, 2025 (WNP): Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his capacity as Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), on Monday presided over a promotion ceremony in Beijing, conferring the rank of general on two senior officers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
The officers promoted to China’s highest active-service military rank were Yang Zhibin, Commander of the PLA Eastern Theater Command, and Han Shengyan, Commander of the PLA Central Theater Command.
The orders of promotion, signed by President Xi, were formally announced by CMC Vice Chairman Zhang Youxia during the ceremony, while CMC Vice Chairman Zhang Shengmin presided over the proceedings.
Congratulating the newly promoted generals, President Xi acknowledged their service and leadership responsibilities at a time of evolving regional and global security dynamics.
The rank of general represents the highest military grade for officers in active service in China and is awarded to senior commanders entrusted with key strategic and operational responsibilities within the PLA.
