ISLAMABAD, Friday, July 18, 2025 (WNP): Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, on Friday took a serious notice of reported damage to the centuries-old Katas Raj Temple in Chakwal following recent heavy monsoon rains, which have endangered the structural integrity of the historic complex.
Responding swiftly to public outcry on social and mainstream media, the minister has written to the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and other relevant authorities, demanding an immediate and comprehensive report on the condition of the sacred Hindu site.
Preliminary reports indicate that water seepage and flooding have caused significant structural stress within the temple complex, raising alarms over the preservation of one of Pakistan’s most important religious and cultural landmarks.
Calling the Katas Raj Temple a “shared national treasure” and a symbol of Pakistan’s multicultural and religious diversity, Minister Khichi reiterated the federal government’s commitment to its preservation. “We will extend all possible support to ensure this unique heritage site is protected and restored for future generations,” he stated.
The Katas Raj Temples, dating back to ancient Hindu civilization, attract pilgrims and visitors from across the region and are considered a vital part of South Asia’s cultural and spiritual history.
Officials have been directed to prioritize restoration planning and engage conservation experts to assess and stabilize the site, which has faced recurring environmental threats over the years. Public interest groups have also urged swift intervention to prevent irreversible damage.
