ISLAMABAD, Monday, July 7, 2025 (WNP): The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has significantly ramped up production at its Rajian well-05 in Chakwal district by installing an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP), marking a major milestone in the company’s efforts to optimize domestic energy resources.
Following a planned workover and the strategic deployment of the ESP, oil production from Rajian-05 has surged to 3,100 barrels per day (BPD), up from 820 BPD. Gas output has also doubled, rising from 0.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) to 1.0 MMSCFD.
Located in Punjab’s Chakwal district, the Rajian Field operates under the Gujar Khan Exploration License and is a wholly owned and operated asset of OGDCL. Discovered in August 1994, the field remains a vital contributor to the company’s energy portfolio.
This latest enhancement at well-05 follows similar upgrades at two other wells in the field, reinforcing OGDCL’s data-driven strategy to revitalize existing fields and boost recovery rates.
“The success of Rajian-05 reaffirms our commitment to leveraging technology and smart field management to maximize output from mature assets,” the company stated. “Such initiatives are essential for ensuring long-term sustainability and energy security for Pakistan.”
Traditionally, Artificial Lift Systems (ALS) like ESPs have been used for shut-in or low-output wells. However, OGDCL is now expanding their use to naturally flowing wells where technical and economic analysis justifies the intervention—aligning with international best practices in reservoir management.
The company emphasized its continued investment in advanced technologies and field optimization strategies to strengthen Pakistan’s energy infrastructure and reduce reliance on imports.
