PM Shehbaz Sharif hands over EV keys to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi; Capital Patrol force to comprise 200 personnel equipped with body cameras
ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, September 8, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday attended a ceremony marking the handover of 50 environmentally friendly electric vehicles (EVs) to the Islamabad Capital Territory Police as part of efforts to modernise policing, enhance public safety and promote green mobility in the federal capital.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister handed over the keys of the 50 electric vehicles to Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi and Inspector General of Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry and senior officials also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said protection of the lives and property of citizens was the government’s foremost priority. He said the government was providing all possible resources to bring Islamabad Police in line with the requirements of modern policing.
The Prime Minister appreciated Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s efforts to modernise the Islamabad Police and said the force should serve as a role model for other cities across Pakistan.
He said the federal capital was being equipped with modern technology, equipment and other essential resources to provide citizens with a safer environment.
The Prime Minister said the provision of electric vehicles was aimed at promoting environment-friendly and green policing in Islamabad. The use of modern technology, he added, would further improve police performance and the quality of services provided to citizens.
On the occasion, Inspector General Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi gave the Prime Minister a detailed briefing on the newly established “Capital Patrol” force, created to strengthen security and policing across the federal capital.
The Prime Minister was informed that Capital Patrol had been established under his vision of a safe, smart and green capital and would comprise a total of 200 police personnel.
Each patrol unit will include one male and one female police officer, while motorcycle-riding personnel will also form part of the force to ensure rapid response and effective patrolling in different areas.
The Prime Minister was further briefed that all Capital Patrol personnel would be equipped with body cameras, designed to enhance transparency, monitoring and accountability in policing operations.
According to the briefing, 50 electric vehicles have been provided for Capital Patrol. As the vehicles operate on electricity, their deployment is expected to significantly reduce fuel expenditure while also contributing to a cleaner environment.
The Prime Minister was informed that the use of the new electric vehicles would result in estimated monthly savings of around Rs340 million in fuel costs, while the cost of an individual vehicle would reportedly be recovered through fuel savings in approximately 10.5 months.
The Prime Minister appreciated the Islamabad Police’s initiatives for adopting modern technology, promoting green policing and strengthening citizen protection.
He directed the relevant authorities to ensure all necessary measures were taken to make the modern policing system more effective and further enhance security and public service delivery in the federal capital.
